As a young child I often sat in lotus pose, try out different poses, gaze at the sky and meditate... all without consciously understanding what I was doing and because it felt right to me.
Many years later my personal practice today still very much resembles this approach by tuning into the needs of my own being.
Consciously I took up yoga in my early 20s as a physical exercise to keep fit only but in my 30s I started practicing with a regular class attendance. And something was very different this time thanks to my wonderful 1st teacher Marie and her 'mind, body and spirit' approach, gently encouraging self study and observation of the impact the practice brought and the strength it nurtured over time.
The initial impact I noticed was in my physical flexibility and reduction of stress, but the more subtle was a shift in my general attitude and approach to life.
I later started attending Iyengar yoga classes where I learned the emphasis on precise pose detail and alignment whilst supporting physical limitations with the use of props.
It was a short leap from there to align with and pursue the calling of becoming a teacher, start studying and finally begin guiding others on their yoga journey to building strength and resilience.
I feel intuitively drawn to teaching centered around the individual needs of each person as a way of complimentary therapy wherever they wish to address a particular need, as well as teaching complete beginners, helping them to overcome any blockages and fears, guiding them to develop stability in their practice.
I employ my naturally self-critical character and allow my inner perfectionist quality to take the side of the student - discerning what really is good and useful for them and when and how is it needed and helpful for them.
